The Castle Singers are raising their voices to the theme of “God Bless the Child” as they prepare for upcoming performances.

A dessert concert featuring songs relating to this theme will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Student Center ballrooms.

Castle Singers’ Director Jane Andrews said to prepare for this concert members of the group did something different than any other choir at Wartburg — they researched the songs.

“Before we perform the song, a student introduces it, telling what they have found out through their research. It makes for a more organic performance,” Andrews said.

Part of the concert will include a Power -point presentation reviewing the activities Castle Singers participated in throughout the school year. The seniors will be honored as this is the last home concert for them.

It serves as a preparation for the Castle Singers’ upcoming tour. Many of the sights on this tour are meaningful to Andrews.

“This tour is kind of like going home for me, because we will be singing in towns where I have taught and singing at my son’s school where he is the orchestra director,” she said.

Another stop on the tour has a special place in Andrews’ heart: the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Her father was a patient there, and she wants the choir to provide entertainment to families in the same situation she was.

They are also making stops at places requested by alumni, including The Jazz Restaurant and Lounge in Denver, Colo., one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs.

Andrews said the Castle Singers will have a busy schedule.

“This is a young group —only five seniors — but they have done a wonderful job preparing. You’re never quite sure what the choir is going to be like. You just have to work to get everyone on the same page,” she said.
