Now, I’m not naive enough to think that Wartburg College is a perfect place. Being one of the co-chairs for Seniors for a Cause (S4C) has exposed me to the many frustrations that students have with Wartburg. The truth is that people are not happy with a number of different issues. Tuition has breeched the 30K mark since the class of 2008 matriculated. We pressed on through the inconvenience of being without a “Physical Education Center” for nearly two years only to be disappointed with the differentiation between students and members at “The W.” I’m sure other seniors could add on dozens more reasons why they would not want to participate in what was formally known as the Senior Class Challenge. Ellen Engh and I redesigned the Senior Class Challenge because we did not feel that it encompassed the present ambitions of our senior class. Our class’ ambitions became known when we opted for “THE CAUSE” earlier this semester. The senior class overwhelmingly chose to endorse future service trips. Service trips represent the spirit of our Wartburg community, and deciding to support them was a fine choice! It is easy to get caught up in thinking that Wartburg College is simply bricks and mortar. The truth is that students are Wartburg! The loyalty song would have us hail to Wartburg College…but I say Wartburg College hail to the students. Congratulations class of 2008! If you are a senior, put aside any negative feelings that you may have accumulated over the last four years, and remember that your gift will support other students. You may contact Ellen Engh or me if you are interested in supporting “The Cause”. Eric Cassmann Co-Chair S4C |
