Mae, an energetic rock band whose name stands for multisensory aesthetic experience, took the stage Monday night for Entertainment ToKnight's (ETK) annual large event. Opening acts were Between the Trees, The Honorary Title, and Far-Less. Group members said they try to incorporate all senses into their performances and developed a video for this tour. "It's half light show and half an extension of what the music is or an extension of what we're trying to communicate. Lights play a part of it, image plays a part of it, words play a part of it. It's basically just using light as a form of harmony," Drummer Jacob Marshall said. Following the concert, around 70 students attended a meet-and-greet with the band, with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. Marshall said the group has also partnered with Toys for Tots. "It started out to kind of be a bridge between our fan community and groups we wanted to know more about or that we thought were doing good work, to partner with them," he said. The invitation for the band to preform came under criticism by some students, who were looking for a better-known name to headline ETK's major event of the year, especially after The Fray's appearance last year. Nearly 400 people purchased tickets, a number ETK Vice-President Chris Lambertz said is comprable with events of years past. Chris Cagle and Maroon 5 each sold about 600 tickets each. Lambertz added that larger acts would result in ticket prices between $15 to $30. |
