The Wartburg Choir is traveling and performing in Europe and Africa this May term.
Destinations include Germany, Italy, Austria and South Africa.

Paul Torkelson, director of Wartburg Choir and Ritterchor, and 87 students are going on the trip.

Key locations include Eisenach, Germany at the Wartburg Castle; Salzburg, Austria, where the “Sound of Music” was filmed and various churches around Europe.

Kendra Reiter said she is anxious to tour Europe and Africa.

“I can’t wait to see the wonders of Rome and experience the cultures of the different European and South African countries,” she said.

“I am also really looking forward to spending time with and growing closer to my Wartburg Choir family.”

Torkelson said one of his favorite parts of the tour is “watching the excitement of the students as they experience these wonderful places and watching how the Europeans treat them like celebrities.”

The music consists of a wide range of literature.

“There are many sacred pieces, a few secular, some spirituals, a gospel piece and a very modern German piece that was composed specifically for Dr. Torkleson and the Wartburg Choir,” Reiter said.

The Wartburg Choir gave a preview concert to a full house Sunday in the chapel as practice for their upcoming tour.
