Music ensembles gear up for concerts

Wartburg choirs and bands will perform a series of spring music concerts beginning April 4. Rit­terchor and the Symphonic Band will start the event. The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Chapel un­der the direction of Paul Torkel­son.

The audience will then go to Neumann Auditorium to hear the Symphonic Band’s perfor­mance directed by Craig Han­cock. Both groups have been working on the music they will perform since the beginning of Winter Term.

“I’m excited that we have the opportunity to share the music we will be singing on our interna­tional tour with the community. We have been working hard and it will be a great way to start off the tour,” Amy Tucker said.

The Wind Ensemble and Wartburg Choir will perform a concert on the following Sunday, April 6. Both ensembles will per­form music from their upcoming tours. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. with the Wind Ensemble, di­rected by Hancock, in Neumann Auditorium. Wartburg Choir will perform under the direction of Torkelson in the Chapel follow­ing the Wind Ensemble.

The Wind Ensemble’s tour of the Midwest is during Tour Week and the Wartburg Choir’s tour of Europe and South Africa is dur­ing May Term.

Knightliter’s Jazz concert under the direction of Allan Jacobson is April 11. The Flute Choir, under the direction of Dominique Caw­ley, will join the band. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium. The three concerts are free and open to the public.

“We have been working most of the semester on our music, and I’m excited because we have a lot of fun songs. It should be a great concert,” David Laughlin, trom­bone player, said.

The final event will take place April 12. The Castle Singers will perform a dessert concert with songs from their upcoming tour. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Heritage and St. Elizabeth Ballrooms in the Saemann Stu­dent Center. Everyone is invited to come enjoy dessert while lis­tening to the Castle Singers un­der the direction of Dr. Jane An­drews. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students.

Tables of eight are $80 each. Interested in­dividuals can reserve seats by by calling 319-352-8300 by Friday.

The Castle Singers will perform in Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa during Tour Week.
