As you start walking, you glance down at the itinerary in your hand. Today you are relaxing at a five-star hotel, tomorrow you perform for parliament and then, at the end of the week, back on the plane and north to Germany to visit the Wartburg Castle.

“If I find these tours to be unforgettable at my age,” Paul Torkelson said, “I can only imagine what the experience is like for these young adults just entering the new world. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and should not be passed up.”

While the Wartburg Choir tour is only one of many May Term options at Wartburg College; there are a plethora of other stimulating, interesting and thrilling adventures to be had during May Term.

During the waning days of spring, most students are whiling away in their rooms, preparing for finals and looking forward to the freedom of summer, but not at Wartburg College.

Students are given a variety of opportunities to travel the country and even the world. These opportunities give students a chance to expand their knowledge of world cultures and to allow their minds to grow in a way that would not be possible in a classroom.

Cliff Brockman, lecturer of communication arts, and a group of students are visiting Germany.

Instead of sitting in class and listening to lectures, students will be working as interns at Wartburg Castle, working for banks, and others doing interviews for the local radio station.

Brockman has never led a trip like this before but feels it beneficial.

During the week students live and work in Eisenach, but on the weekends they are free to explore and travel as they please.

“When I went to Germany the first time I loved it,” Brockman said. “Now, 35 years later, I have finally made it back.”

Foreign countries are not the only destination for students this May Term, however.
Sunny, cool California is yet another May Term locale.

A group will be visiting San Bernardino to take part in Religion 255, whose goal is to analyze the church’s mission in the city. This may include experiences with social justice and study of spiritual, economic, political and social contexts.

Choir tours, internships and ministry are only a fraction of what is available this May Term.

“May Term is a mind-blowing experience that should not be missed,” Thomas Wininger said.

A complete list of May Term possibilities can be found in the Wartburg College catalogue.
