Norman Kunc and Emma Van der Klift will speak about the importance of inclusion and attitudes at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 in the McCaskey Lyceum. The presentation is meant to help people see ability and disability in a different way.

Kunc and Van der Klift have spent 20 years working to ensure people with disabilities are able to take their rightful place in schools, workplaces and communities.

“It definitely raises your awareness and changes your behavior. He provides us with an urgency to think differently so we then act differently. His message will change your thinking,” Kayleen Symmonds, inclusion consultant, said.

Born with cerebral palsy, Kunc attended a segregated school for children with physical disabilities until the age of 13 when he transitioned into a regular school. He went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in humanities and a Master of Science in family therapy.

Kunc is now a regular lecturer with Principal’s Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and an associate of the Facilitated Communication Institute at Syracuse University. He and Van der Klift are co-directors of Broadreach Training and Resources, Ltd. They travel internationally providing keynote addresses, in-service and training for educators, human service agencies and advocacy groups.

Inclusion Connection is sponsoring the event with contributions from Cedar Valley organizations.
