Wartburg was the only college in Iowa to participate in a new virtual college fair. The fair for prospective students was hosted via the Internet Tuesday and Wednesday. More than 200 schools participated in the virtual college fair and more than 30,000 students and parents registered for the event. Todd Coleman, assistant vice president for admissions and alumni & parent programs, found out about the new program through an article in USA Today. He said the Internet provided a more convenient way to reach prospective Wartburg students. “I wanted to try something new that would appeal to students,” Coleman said. The Web site featured chat rooms, national speakers, videos and a live panel. Visitors to the virtual fair could search the “college hall” and talk with a college student, visit a college Web site or chat with other prospective college students. Whether the virtual college fair was a success or failure will be evaluated and determined by Coleman. Next year’s participation will be based on this year’s results. |
