The 1999-2000 Wartburg College Artist Series will be "Ushering in a New Century" at 8 p.m. Saturday with a performance by "Broadway Goes to the Met" in Neumann Auditorium. This show will include a San Francisco Bay Area group composed of three singers and a pianist who will be performing songs and stories from opera and Broadway shows.

The first act features opera selections from "La Boheme," "La Traviata," "Rigoletto," "The Marriage of Figaro," and more. The second act focuses on familiar tunes from Broadway's best show. They include "Phantom of the Opera," "Porgy and Bess," " The Sound of Music," and "Showboat."

Tickets ranging from $6-$12 can be bought in advance by contacting Karen Funk at the Wartburg Visitors Center, 319-352-8286. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Season tickets, providing admission to all four Artist Series performances, will also be available for a discounted price. Wartburg students can pick up free tickets at the Information Desk with their student ID.

There will be a special buffet dinner served in the Castle Room of the Student Union before the show. The cost of the dinner will be $12 per person, however, purchasing a season ticket for the dinners for $36 dollars will give you four dinners for the price of three.

The three other performances in this year's series include "Porgy and Bess" from New York on Monday, Nov. 22, the Eroica Trio on Monday, Feb. 14, and the Sonos Handbell Ensemble on Friday, March 24.
