The No. 2 ranked Wartburg wrestling team dominated No. 8 ranked Buena Vista 35-3 Thursday. This was the last dual meet for both teams before the Iowa Conference championships in Waterloo Thursday.

"We were full strength tonight," said junior Casey Doyle. "We can use this as momentum going into the conference meet."

Senior Carson Andorf, wrestling at 184, started the meet with a 12-2 win over Ben Borkowski.

At 197, junior Matt Buskohl rode Dave Doebel the entire second period and earned a reversal in the third period to win 3-0.

Senior heavyweight Kris O'Rear earned five takedowns against Derrick Schumacher to get the 12-2 win.

At 125, senior Zac Weiglein controlled Nick Field 6-2.

At 133, senior Ben Kritsonis took down Mike Hoenstein 10 times in the first two periods to win by technical fall 23-8.

"I want to be prepared the best I can for every match," Kritsonis said. "Training is the hard part, competing is the fun part."

At 141, junior Casey Doyle broke the 0-0 tie in the third period by escaping from Mark Van Beek and earning a point for riding time to win, 2-0.

Senior Nick Mitchell, at 149, had quite a cheering section as he beat former Wartburger Colby Yoder 7-2.

Mitchell student teaches fifth grade at St. Paul's Lutheran School. Students from his class came to watch him and cause a ruckus.

"I didn't want to let them down," Mitchell said.

At 157, senior Chris Smith scored eight points in the third period to beat Gavin Martin, 13-2.

Junior Justin Holdgrafer, wrestling at 165, scored four points against national champion Andy Krueger, but it wasn't enough as Krueger earned the Beavers only win of the night, 5-4.

Senior Brandon Holmberg won by forfeit at 174.

The Knights have a 16-3 overall record.
