It was a good day for Wartburg Rugby Sunday as the women ruggers beat Luther 24-7 on the home pitch.

Freshman Kat Breitbach had an impressive debut, scoring three tries (five points apiece) for the Knights.

Senior Christi Wickre gave Wartburg its fourth try, and senior Britta Monson followed up making two of the four point after (two points apiece). Luther scored its lone try near the end of the first half.

Wartburg Captain Jenn Hively said she was proud of the team.

"Our new players have really stepped up, and we expect to play as well at UNI," Hively said.

The Knights will compete this weekend against eight other teams in the Collegiate Cup at UNI.

The Knights also received good news off the field.

Three Wartburg ruggers were chosen to compete on this year's Women's Collegiate Select Side.

Senior Christi Wickre, junior Jane Ray, and freshman Buffy Wickre were three of 25 women selected to represent Iowa against teams from around the country.

Selection is based on skill level, coachability, and fitness.

The team will compete this month in the annual Midwest Collegiate Select Side Tournament April 22 in Rockford, Ill.
