Psi Chi
is the National Honor Society in Psychology. The
The
mission statement of Psi Chi is to “produce a
well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to
contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in
general.” The Honor Society functions under two main goals.
The
first goal is the obligation to provide academic recognition to its inductees
by the mere fact of membership. This goal is accomplished each year as
Psychology majors apply to the honor society and are judged for acceptance
based on their coursework. An induction ceremony is held to acknowledge current
and new members’ academic accomplishments.
The
second goal of Psi Chi is the obligation of each of
the Society’s local chapters to nurture the spark of that accomplishment by
offering a climate congenial to creative development. The chapter is
responsible to create opportunities for professional growth including
presenting research at conferences such as the Midwestern Psychological
Association’s annual meeting in
To
be eligible for membership in Psi Chi, students must (1)
be in the top 35% of his/her class in general scholarship, (2) have completed
at least three courses in psychology and (3) have at least a 3.0 GPA in both
psychology classes and in cumulative grades.

May, 2005, two Wartburg Psi Chi members attended the
