International Club Constitution
ArticleI: Name and Purpose
Section 1: The organization shall be named the Wartburg College International Club.
Section 2: The purposes of this organization shall be:
To promote better understanding between international and U.S. students
To assist international students in adjusting to Warburg College and American culture.
To introduce other cultures to the community through special events and programs
To plan educational, social, recreational, and cultural events for the club members, the college community, and the Waverly community
To provide cultural diversity on campus and within the Waverly community
Article II: Membership
Section 1: Membership is open to all Wartburg students, faculty and staff.
Section 2: Honorary (non-voting) membership may be given by the Executive Committee to members of the Waverly communityand to international students in the Waverly-Shell Rock High School.
Section 3: Obligations of membership shall be defined in By-Law I.
Section 4: Membership shall not be denied on the basis of race, age, sex, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or handicap.
Article III: The Executive Committee
Section 1: The Executive Committee shall consist of seven voting persons and a non-voting, ex-officio position.
One is to be elected from each of the following regions by the students from that particular region
1) Europe and Middle East
2) Africa
3) Central and South America
4) East Asia (Japan to Burma)
5) South Asia (Bangladesh to Iraq and Saudi Arabia)
6) North America (U.S., Canada, and Mexico)
The seventh person is to be elected as member at large
If any region fails to elect a representative, another member at large may be voted upon
The ex-officio member shall be the International Student Liaison
Section II: The voting members of the Executive Committee shall be selected for the following positions in a manner outlined in By-Laws VI and VII.
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Social Events Coordinator
Public Relations Officer
International Club Representative
Article IV: Responsibilities of the Executive Committee
Section 1: General responsibilities of the Executive Committee
Shall be responsible for planning Club activities
Shall be responsible for promoting interaction between international students and the Wartburg community
Shall encourage participation of members in Club activities
Shall be in charge of recruiting new members
Shall attend all Club meetings and activities unless excused
Section 2: President
Shall represent the Wartburg College International Club in the Wartburg and Waverly community
Shall be responsible for running meetings of the International Club
Shall be responsible for overseeing all other members of the Executive Committee
Shall have the authority, in consultation with the Executive Committee, to create a standing committee
Shall have the authority to delegate duties not stated in the constitution
Section 3: Vice President
Shall be responsible for any of the President’s responsibilities in his/her absence
Shall be the chairperson of recruiting efforts
Section 4: Secretary
Shall be responsible for informing the members of the Club activities
Shall be responsible for taking minutes at the meetings, distributing the minutes, and posting a copy of the minutes in the International Club office and website. Thus needs to be a good note taker
Shall be responsible for the maintenance of the website and may appoint a webmaster
Section 5: Treasurer
Shall be responsible for keeping the financial records of the Wartburg College International Club account and receipts of all transactions involving the Club, and giving regular reports. Thus needs to have a good math skill
Shall be the chairpersonof fundraising efforts
Shall be responsible for collecting dues from members if dues are required
Section 6: Social Events Coordinator
Shall be responsible for managing social events
Shall be responsible for refreshments at events
Section 7: Public Relations Officer
Shall be responsible for all International Club publicity. Thus needs to have good graphic skills
Section 8: International Club Representative
Shall be the representative of the International Club to the Student Senate and other clubs and organizations in college
Shall inform international students about projects and actions of senate and other clubs and organizations in college
Shall attend student senate meeting and report I-Club about the things discussed in the senate meeting
Section 10: International Student Liaison
Shall serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Executive Committee
Section 11: Term of Office
The term of the office shall start at the end of May Term and continue for one year.
Section 12: Qualifications of the Executive Committee
Qualifications of the Executive Committee shall be defined in By-Law VII.
Section 13: Elections of Executive Committee
Elections of Executive Committee and officers shall be defined in By-Laws V and VII.
Section 14: Subject to Dismissal
Executive Committee members shall be subject to dismissal after missing three regularly schedule meeting and/or club events of the Executive Committee without submitting prior notification of absence.
Section 15: Failure to perform responsibilities
Any executive officer who fails to perform the responsibilities outlined above may be removed from office by a 2/3 vote of the other Executive Committee officers.
Article V: Advisor
Section 1: The advisor of this organization shall be the Director of International Programs.
Article VI: Amendments to the Constitution
Section 1: Any statement or section may be amended under these conditions:
An amendment has to be agreed upon by a simple majority of the members present at a general meeting
Article VII: Ratification of the Constitution
Section 1: This constitution will be in effect when approved by 2/3 of the members present at a general meeting.
