About Us
Our Aims and Goals
The International Club is the largest student organization at Wartburg College, with a membership of over 100 people. All International Students who attend Wartburg are automatically inducted into the club. However, membership is not limited to International Students. Our members include American students and members of the faculty, staff and also residents of the Waverly/Shell Rock community. Read the club's constitution and our by-laws.
The club has aims to fulfil and strives to accomplish, at the least, the following goals:
-
Promote better understanding between American & International Students.
-
Assist new International Students adjust to the college environment and also to the American culture.
-
Introduce foreign cultures to the community through special events and programs, such as Chinese New Year celebrations and Culture Week.
-
Plan educational, cultural, social and recreational events for club members as well as the college and town community.
To achieve our goals, we work under the auspices of the International Programs Department.
Events We Organize
We also organize different events that involve all members of I-club as well as Wartburg and Waverly community. Some of our big events include Homecoming, Chinese New Year dinner, and Culture Week.
Every year, I-club members actively participate in homecoming activities. We make banners and floats, dress up in our traditional clothing and carry our flags during the parade, and make kabobs for the renaissance fair. We also celebrate Chinese New Year by having Chinese food served and Lucky Pocket distributed in the Mensa. We also have the cafeteria decorated in red and encourage everyone to wear red during this day.
Among all of the activities we organize, Culture Week is the biggest (and most important). We would spend this whole week familiarizing our Wartburg Community with the diverse cultures of international students. Last school year, we have the windows in the Student Center decorated by students of different countries (thus one for each country) and we have the bulletin boards filled with information about the uniqueness of countries and cultures around the world. In conclusion for this week, we have a culture dinner that serve ethnic food prepared by students and we also have a culture performance where students of each country would “show off” their distinctive dances, music (vocal and instrumental), skits, etc.
