Events We Organize
1. Homecoming
Every year, I-club members actively participate in homecoming activities. These include making floats and banners, dressing up in traditional clothing, carrying flags during the parade, and preparing traditional dishes to be sold in the Renaissance Faire.
2. I-Club Parties
At least one Friday a month, I-club hosts parties where everybody is invited to celebrate diversity through music and dance. I-Club also makes sure that there is availability of pop and snacks.
3. Get-together / Ice-cream social / Cook-out
Once in a while, I-Club arranges get togethers in the Diers House. It usually occurs during the breaks or weekends when people don’t have much to do. Similarly, ice-cream socials also take place along with cook-outs. They’re mostly organized to make sure that members keep in touch with each other and have fun.
4. Chinese New Year Dinner
The Chinese New Year Dinner is a big event for I-Club. It is because the whole college gets to try Chinese cuisine. I-Club members hand out lucky money to anyone who eats at the Mensa that evening and there is a lucky draw for people who show up in red. The Mensa also serves Chinese dishes to celebrate the New Year. A lot of Chinese decorations are in place during this special event.
5. Culture Week
Among all of the activities we organize, Culture Week is the biggest (and most important). We would spend this whole week familiarizing our Wartburg Community with the diverse cultures of international students. Last school year, we have the windows in the Student Center decorated by students of different countries (thus one for each country) and we have the bulletin boards filled with information about the uniqueness of countries and cultures around the world. In conclusion for this week, we have a culture dinner that serve ethnic food prepared by students and we also have a culture performance where students of each country would “show off” their distinctive dances, music (vocal and instrumental), skits, etc.
6. Support
There are many ways to support I-club. The easiest way would be to help in
organizing various events that I-Club initiates. Furthermore, I-Club collects a
$5 fee from each member to support its initiatives.
Why pay dues?
- To be official I-club members
- To be kept in our mailing list
- To go on any trip organized by I-Club
- To attend culture dinner and performance for free or at lower cost
- To improve the quality of events we organize and maybe have more events organized
