Ju-das
n. 1. the disciple that betrayed Jesus of Nazareth
2. heroin

With Jesus’s right-hand man on my left
I can only feel guilty
as we roam the streets by night,
reveling in bleak lifelike stupor.
But light filters not to these depths
and it was I who let the needle tighten the noose.

It wasn’t long ago
when we met.
Life seemed to beam,
love seeped from the seams,
then I awoke to find
my candle burned to its base
and Judas in my bloodstream.
