Activities
Wartburg Women's Basketball Since my freshman year, I have participated on the Wartburg Women's basketball team. After recovering from a season ending knee injury my freshman year, I have successfully contributed to the team during my sophomore and junior campaigns. I was fortunate enough to be named as one of the team co-captains for the 2007-2008 season. Assuming this role, I have been able to develop my leadership skills by effectively communicating with the other players to increase our ability to work as a team.
Top of Page On-Campus Jobs Here on campus, I have also had the opportunity to experience a few jobs during my college career. This past year, I worked as a Knightcaller. During the calling campaign, my position included calling alumni and individuals associated with college, encouraging donations for the college fundraising campaign. For the majority of my sophomore year at Wartburg, I cleaned classrooms in one of the buildings on campus every morning.
Other Opportunities Other activities on campus that I participate in are Phi Beta Lambda and the Student Ambassador program. Phi Beta Lambda, is a business organization that is specifically offered to students who have a major that is connected to the Business Department. I recently became involved with Student Ambassadors. Student Ambassadors is associated with Wartburg College Admissions Office. The purpose of Student Ambassadors is to guide campus tours and provide information about the college to prospective students.
During the past fall term (2007), in my Human Resource Management class, I had the opportunity to be involved with a team project focusing on Human Resource strategies that impact the Cedar Valley. We created and conducted a survey that targeted Human Resource practices of the Cedar Valley SHRM chapter. The results of the survey, served as a benchmark for Human Resource strategies. While at Wartburg, I have had the privilege to serve others. In the past year, I have been a volunteer in the Waverly School District, involved with Project Kick, and embarked on a service trip to Southern Colorado. As a volunteer in the Waverly School District, during the 2006-2007 school year, I volunteered in a Title I Reading classroom. I helped students learn sounds, vocabulary, and eventually increase their reading speed ability.
My involvement with Project Kick was in effort to have Wartburg athletic teams become more involved with community. Our basketball team helped out at the recycling center in Waverly, recycling the products that Waverly citizens brought in.
Last year over Tour Week, I was apart of a group of Wartburg students that adventured out to Westcliffe, Colorado. In Westcliffe, we helped at Paca Peace Ranch. During our week-long trip, we helped with a variety of tasks to improve the ranch for the alpacas as well as prepare it for the spring session with the youth.
